Time:2014-06-12

Hong Kong, China, 12 June 2014 - United Photovoltaics Group Limited (“United PV” or the “Company,” stock code: 00686.HK, whose largest shareholder is China Merchants New Energy Group “CMNE”), a leading solar power plant investor and operator in China, today announced that the Company’s “High-performance Distributed PV Power Station for Demonstration” was honored with 2014 Bluesky Award Nominee Certificate, at the Shenzhen International Workshop on Renewable Energy Technology and Investment yesterday. The workshop was conjunct with Bluesky Award Evaluation of Global Top Investment Scenarios to Apply New Technologies for Renewable Energy Utilization.

The high-performance distributed PV power station for demonstration, located in Qianhai, Shenzhen, has a total installed capacity of 2.1MW. The optimized PV design solutions and construction method have improved the performance in electrical properties between joints; the best selected placement of the equipment has reduced the transmission line loss; a centralized monitoring system has enhanced the effectiveness and efficiency of the daily operation in the power plant, and is essential to ensure high performance, low downtime, and fault detection of a solar PV system. As tested by TUV Rheinland Group, an international authoritative testing organization, the power station’s system recorded a 83.43% performance ratio, which is way higher than other similar power plants in China (<80%). In addition, the power station has adopted a 500kW centralized inverter, 20kW series inverter and 250W micro inverter. This is the first attempt in China with combination of different levels of inverters for a long-term empirical research.

The Bluesky Award of Global Top Investment Scenarios to Apply New Technologies for Renewable Energy Utilization, guided and supported by the United Nations’ Industrial Development Organization, is the first award organized by the Shenzhen International Technology Promotions Centre for Sustainable Development. Starting 2005, the BlueSky Award has been held for four years, given 38 technology awards to 12 countries. The committee received new technologies applications from many countries this year, including the U.S., France, Norway and China. In which, the committee conferred Bluesky Award Nominee Certificate for 10 technologies among 20 finalists.

The Bluesky Award aims to promote innovative renewable applications in China and other developing countries with successful case studies, which can ease conventional energies shortage and reduce environmental pollution.
